TimeProvider® 4500 Series: Next-Generation PTP Grandmaster for Secure, Sub-Nanosecond Timing

The Microchip TimeProvider® 4500 Series (TP4500) Release 3.0 represents the latest evolution of carrier-grade timing solutions, delivering sub-nanosecond accuracy, enhanced security, and high-speed connectivity for modern critical infrastructure networks.

Operators of critical infrastructure in the 5G telecommunications, utilities and transportation markets need to upgrade their networks continuously with technology that can deliver higher processing speeds and highly accurate time that is not dependent on GPS. They need a terrestrial alternative to GPS that distributes precise time over distances reaching 1,000 kilometres and delivers increased accuracy.

The TimeProvider® 4500 Series (TP4500) offers flexible connectivity with 1, 10 and 25 GbE interfaces, supporting evolving high-speed network infrastructures up to 100 GbE while protecting existing investments. Designed for scalability, it supports up to 2,000 PTP clients, making it ideal for both edge deployments and large-scale 5G C-band networks. Delivering sub-nanosecond accuracy, the TP4500 provides a resilient alternative to GNSS, enabling precise timing over long distances using existing optical networks—without requiring GPS at every node. The TP4500 supports advanced architectures, including vPRTC and cnPRTC, reducing GNSS dependency while ensuring high reliability, security, and extended holdover performance for critical infrastructure networks.
