In June, Sevcan Kocan celebrated her five-year anniversary at Milexia Nordics.
Sevcan Kocan, Supply Chain Planner, reflects on her journey at Milexia Nordics, from fashion to electronics, and the key qualities that shaped her career.
A journey into electronics distribution
Over the past five years, Sevcan has become an important part of our Supply Chain team, helping to ensure that products, information and deliveries move smoothly through an increasingly complex global supply chain. But before joining Milexia, her career looked very different.
Originally working in the fashion industry, Sevcan made the decision to take on a new challenge and step into the world of electronics distribution – a move that led her to professional growth and valuable relationships.
Taking the leap into a new Industry
Looking back on the decision, Sevcan explains the time was right for a new challenge.
“I was curious to see how my skills could be applied in a different type of business. Purchasing is fundamentally about planning, coordination and collaboration, and those skills are valuable across many industries.”
Starting in a completely new sector naturally came with a learning curve. New products, suppliers and processes meant there was plenty to learn, but for Sevcan, that was part of the appeal.
“I was excited and very curious. Gaining new knowledge and developing professionally was a strong motivation for me.”
More familiar than expected
While fashion and electronics may seem worlds apart, Sevcan quickly discovered that many of the core principles of supply chain management remained the same across both sectors.
“The products and markets are obviously very different, but planning, supplier management, coordination and maintaining a strong flow throughout the value chain are essential in both industries.”
One of the biggest surprises was the complexity and international nature of the electronics industry.
“Many deliveries depend on global supply chains, which makes the work both challenging and exciting.”
At the same time, she found comfort in the familiar aspects of the role.
“A value chain operates according to many of the same principles, whether you’re working with clothing or electronics. That gave me a strong foundation from the beginning.”
The value of strong relationships
Today, Sevcan’s role primarily involves planning, coordination, and purchasing, where she acts as a link between suppliers and internal stakeholders. A key part of her day-to-day work is ensuring that orders are processed correctly, deliveries arrive on time, and information is shared efficiently.
What she enjoys most is knowing that her work contributes to the success of the wider business.
“I like that my role has a direct impact on keeping the entire value chain running smoothly. It’s motivating to be part of something bigger and to know that my work creates value for customers, suppliers and colleagues.”
Relationships also play a central role in her work.
“Good relationships create trust, make communication easier and help us find solutions when challenges arise.”
For Sevcan, successful collaboration is built on open communication, proactive follow-up and clear expectations.
“When everyone contributes the right information at the right time and works together across departments, that’s when we achieve the best results.”
Curiosity matters more than industry experience
One common misconception about the electronics industry is that every role requires a highly technical background. Sevcan’s experience tells a different story.
“You don’t need to be a technical specialist or engineer to work in purchasing within the electronics industry. The most important qualities are curiosity, structure and a willingness to learn.”
For Sevcan, success in her role comes down to structure, communication, collaboration and a positive, solution-oriented mindset – qualities that can be developed in many different industries. These same qualities are also part of what has made Milexia Nordics a place where she has chosen to build her career over the past five years.
“I genuinely enjoy working here. We have a great culture, strong collaboration and fantastic colleagues. It’s a place where people trust each other and are always willing to help.”
As Sevcan celebrates her five-year milestone, her journey serves as a reminder that valuable skills are transferable across industries and that curiosity, collaboration and a willingness to learn can open the door to exciting new opportunities.
